About the Artist
Artist’s Statement ~
In my Contemporary Impressionist and Color Field style works of art, I paint to emphasize the harmonious rhythm of organic line and form found within the wonderful natural world in contrast with commonly static elements upon the geometric “window” of the canvas. I often paint with a analogous paint palette, sometimes including metallic media in a nod to my substantial interior design background, while working to create a balanced composition with a rich interplay of texture and light.
Working from the heart, my passion for nature, the human spirit, and nostalgia are shared througb meditative landscapes, figurative sketches, wildlife studies, or whimsical works, I paint to engage, inspire and/or comfort the viewer from a place of personal quietude and gratitude. Views of water and local wildlife are common subjects in my work. Our Florida Panhandle beaches and rare coastal dune lakes are places of reflection, contemplation, peaceful solitude and great beauty. Wonderful vistas seen during walks, abstract ideas from daily life, the beautiful organic lines of nature, passages read from books and journals, and the human form all compel me to create art.
Artist’s Background ~
A native of Mississippi, I developed a deep love of the Panhandle and the Hwy 30-A stretch of communities throughout my lifetime. My spouse and I made idyllic Lake Powell, near scenic Hwy. 30-A and Inlet Beach, our home in 2009. Holding separate college degrees in art and interior design, my career path led me full-time to the creation of art following 20 years of professional interior design practice and retail store ownership. I am grateful for all of my blessings and experiences but I must say that I am most fulfilled when found within my painting studio and among the local art community.
